Tribes get their first ever win at SINCC

Yesterday the 2nd of September, 13 of us travelled to ALSAA in Santry, Co. Dublin for the Softball Ireland National Club Championship.

Galway Tribes started off well against Dodder Dynamoes of Dodder Softball Club, the reigning Irish and Leinster Champions. We took a 4-2 lead after the first. A 5 run top of the 5th extended the lead to 10-6 at the end of the 5th.
Leading for most the game until the bottom of the 6th when Dodder scored 6 to lead by one.

Tribes tied it up in the top to 12-12. Dodder scored the one run they needed to walk it off in the bottom of the 7th. It didn’t go our way but boy did we give them a shock!


Next up was another tight affair against the Ulster Champions, Brawlers of Belfast Softball Club.

We started off slow and good defence was on hand by both teams giving us a 1-0 lead after 1. Brawlers got the lead after some runs here and there to lead 5-3 after 5 as our bats went cold.

1 run a piece in the 6th and a shutout Top of 7th left Tribes with a 6-4 deficit to overcome in the bottom of the 7th.

Cathal started off with a double followed by a 6-3 ground out by Mary and a pop up by Rory to first base.

Alex, who was at the time 0-for-6 on the day, was up to bat with 2 outs and a runner on third. Alex hit a single through the left infield to bring in Cathal from 3rd. The 2 out rally was on!

One run down, runner on first, Lorcan hits a stand-up double to left field while Alex reaches third on a heels-over-head first slide to third.

Abby, our designated hitter, hit an infield single, beating the throw at first to bring the tying run home from third and Lorcan to third base.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man… Ryan Dennis, coming in as the relief pitcher, hits a line drive to left centre to bring Lorcan home and complete a 3 run, 2 out, walkoff win!

This is Galway Tribes FIRST ever win at the National Club Championships in their 2nd year in this competition!

Sadly, Dodder beat a deflated Belfast 13-3 to win the Championship that was so close to being ours.
