Tribes win the Inaugural Connacht Munster League 2023

With the introduction of a 3rd Regional body to Softball Ireland last year with Softball Connacht Munster, teams from the region can now qualify for the Softball Ireland National Club Championship by winning the Softball Connacht Munster League also known as the Wild Atlantic League.

Galway Tribes were the chosen team to represent Galway Softball at the SCM Finals after beating the Galway Hookers 30-5 after 4 and Oranmore Orcas 25-5 after 5 innings in St. Mary’s College on the 22nd of July. This was an internal league qualifier and we are proud to have 3 teams represented in Galway Softball’s first official regional league matches.

The SCM Finals were held on 3G GAA All-weather Pitch at the North Campus of the University of Limerick on the 29th of July. We welcomed two brand new clubs in Cork Dugout Dragons and Limerick Softball in their first matches in their history. While the warm west of Ireland with high winds and scattered rainfall to sunshine in the afternoon did not stop the softball action.

We brought down 16 Galway Softball members with some helping out Limerick and Cork for numbers which we appreciate them for doing so. Galway Tribes beat Limerick Softball 29-3 after 4, Limerick defeated Cork Dugout Dragons for their first ever win 15-6 and for the last match of the day Tribes won 28-2 after 4 against the Cork Dugout Dragons. Many thanks to the Committee of Softball Connacht Munster for getting the two clubs off the ground and getting the inaugural SCM League running.

Galway Tribes will now represent the Connacht Munster region for the second time in the Softball Ireland National Club Championship (SINCC). It will be a repeat of last year’s SINCC with Brawlers of Belfast Softball Club the Winners of the Ulster League Division 1 and Dodder Dynamoes, the Current All-Ireland Champions and Winner of the 2023 Leinster Premier League.

SINCC will take place on the 2nd of September at ALSAA in Santry, Co. Dublin from 10am-4pm. The winner will represent Ireland at the 2025 Co-ed Slowpitch European Super Cup.
