The 4th Edition of the Galway Softball Social League begins on the 2nd of May with the club split into 5 even teams.

” 2024 sees Galway Softball enter its 26th season of Slowpitch Softball in Ireland. From small beginnings in 1998 as a team, the Galway Tribes, the club has grown into the largest in Ireland in a short space of time recently. In 2021, we created a social league to expand the club membership when the easing of lock-downs opened social/sporting activities slowly during the pandemic.

We’ve grown from 30 or so members in 2019 with two travel teams, Galway Tribes and Galway Hookers, to just reaching 100 members during the 2023 season. 2023 was a Landmark year for the club celebrating 25 years and the Galway Bay Brewery Softball League brought tremendous achievements with it. We reached greater gender balance at Committee level, social league captains and more 5&5 gender balance to teams on the field. Over 75% of the 2023 Social League games were played with 5 Males and 5 Females a side and all bar one of the Playoff games were played 5&5.

2024 brings new hope and opportunities to sustain the Club’s future. With big dreams of having our own Baseball/Softball diamonds being explored with the medium to long term goals in mind. We hope to bring Fastpitch Softball, the competitive version of softball and a LA Olympics 2028 Sport, to the west of Ireland in 2024 or 2025. As early as Spring 2025, we could welcome Baseball to the club in the form of Youth Little League as Galway Softball looks to venture into a One Club model for all age levels and the Three bat and ball sports of Baseball, Fastpitch Softball and Slowpitch Softball. “- Lorcan Carbin, Galway Softball Chairperson.

Matches are played in a timed format, 50 minutes – No new innings, 55 minutes – Game ends. Each at bat starts with a 1 Ball & 1 Strike to speed up the game and allow more ball in play. First pitch (Match Start) is at 6:30pm and 7:30pm on Thursdays.
